Symptoms & Preventative Measures
Symptoms that can be fixed with this repair:
How do I know if I need an iPhone 4 Complete Screen is required?
Most iPhone 4s (so far 90% of the iPhone 4s we have seen) require an entire screen assembly because the LCD and Digitizer are fused together.
LCD Cracks or Breaks: Screen shows little or not content, and it looks like someone spilled ink on your screen. Sometimes you will find vertical colored/ white lines on the displaying portion of the screen. Other damage that occurs during this kind of damage usually is a cracked glass lens/digitizer. Damage usually occurs from sitting on the iPhone, or widespread pressure (as apposed to pinpoint pressure), or dropping the iphone on it's back. Replacement of the LCD will repair any dead pixels, vertical pixel lines or dead pixel horizontal lines.
LCD Failure - Dead Pixels
: Dead Pixels are individual points on the LCD screen that do not show any color, but are gray. Typically, dead LCDs come in groups, usually in a hoizontal fashion. Damage usually occurs from pinpoint pressure from pressing on the glass lens/digitizer
too hard, or sometimes from extreme heat.
Preventative Measures include using an Otter Box™ protective case, and keeping the iPhone out of the sun for long periods of time.
LCD Failure - Stuck Pixels
: Stuck Pixels are individual points or vertical lines of white, red, green and/or blue pixels. Vertical lines will tend to 'flash' or strobe, and sometimes move. This usually happens from damage to the LCD processing chip, and is only resolved by an LCD replacement. Individual pixels that are 'stuck' on an individual color are usually at the fault of the manufacturer, and can sometimes be fixed using a pixel fixer you can download for free from the iTunes Store. Unfortunately, unless you are still under warranty, you cannot get the manufacturer to replace the screen. If you get your LCD replaced by us, it comes with a 1 Year Warranty, which includes against stuck pixels due to manufacturing.
Preventative Measures include using an Otter Box™ protective case, and keeping the iPhone out of the sun for long periods of time. Individual pixels are impossible to avoid, timing depends on the quality of materials. We only use Apple Original Parts, and Warranty such parts for 1 Year.
LCD: White Screen of Death:
Screen lights up white, or white with gray streaks. Damage usually means that the LCD processing chip has been irreversably damaged. However, if you find it's just solid white, typically a 'force restart' can resolve such issues. Damage usually occurs from impact damage or crushing from sitting on the iPhone or getting run over by vehicles (Yes, it does happen).
Preventative measures include a plastic adhesive clear/ anti-glare or reflective screen protector, a ZAGG Invisible Shield ™, or a case with a protective layer such as the Otter Box™.
Digitizer: Cracked Glass
on the front of the iPhone; Cracks, splinters, and shattered glass can occur when dropped, or upon a high PSI impact to the iPhone 4. While not often, sometimes screens will break inside pockets, usually due to pressure from keys or other hard objects impacting the screen. The Digitizer (what reads the touch of your fingers) will typically still be responsive, but can also fail, if not immedaitely, over time.
include using a case for your iPhone that creates seperation between objects and the screen. Cases that don't create a 'lip' on the glass side of the screen may be fashionable, but provide no protection. An Otter Box™ protective case on the other hand, provides significant protection against impact damage to the front, back or sides of the iPhone. Screen protectors provide limited protection as they do not prevent PSI breaks (Pounds per Square Inch) where pinpoint pressure causes the screen to crack, however, it will aid in protection against sliding cracks where impact is minimal but objects harshly abrase the screen. For LCD breaks, the thicker & more padded the case, the better to cushion impact.
Why is the iPhone 4 Screen so much more expensive, can't I just replace the LCD or Digitizer like my 3G or 3GS?
No. The iPhone 4 Complete Screen was assembled and designed by apple to prevent dust from invading the areas between the external glass and the content-showing LCD. With the resolution of the screen being higher, a single piece of dust consumes more pixel-real-estate than before, and thus the design change. While we can install the parts separately, we do not recommend it for that reason as well as a cost issue (It's more expensive to replace the pieces as two parts than as one whole unit).
Are the iPhone 4 the same as the iPhone 4S, 3G or 3GS LCD display?
No. View the iPhone 4S Complete Display Replacement | View the iPhone 3G LCD | View the iPhone 3GS LCD
Is this part an Original iPhone part?
Yes. It comes with a 1 Year Warranty against manufacturing defects or installation errors, including the part and labor to replace it. This may include dead or stuck pixels, as long as the iPhone's impact sensor has not indicated a significant impact since the installation. Please ensure that you pick up a warranty card at the time of repair. The warranty explicitly does not include any LCD screen that is cracked, shattered or broken in any way, damaged via fluid or water, or if the iPhone was repaired by any other company. Warranty validation may require further inquiry than initial inspection.
